I think that Throne is in love with Cress, but is afraid to admit it. I know this because when they were left in the desert, Thorne sacrificed every ounce of energy he had to, to the best of his abilities, ensure Cress’s welfare. And because even though Thorne was temporarily blind, he did everything he could to help Cress from diving deeper and deeper into hysteria. And for example, just before she was captured by Lunars in the book, Thorne, to the best of his abilities, created a diversion inside the abandoned trade city. Clearly, knowing Carswell Thorne, he wouldn’t have done ANY of these things...unless he loved Cress from the bottom of his heart.
