Lockwood and Co. by Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood and Co. Book Three The Hollow Boy
Summary
The Hollow Boy is set in a kind of parallel universe. It’s modern day London, but London is haunted by all different types of ghosts. Only kids can see the ghosts, so certain children train to become agents and instead of going to school they spent their childhood defeating ghosts. In The Hollow Boy Lucy, the main character, is an agent working for an agency called Lockwood and Co.. An unnaturally large outbreak of ghosts appears in Chelsea. The Hollow Boy is about Lockwood and Co.’s quest to stop the Chelsea outbreak and to make their small agency famous. For Lucy it’s also about learning to cope with the new, annoyingly peppy and organized assistant Holly Munro.
Inference
My ToonDoo is showing that by the end of the book Lucy likes Holly more than she did in the beginning. The first box of my ToonDoo is showing what Holly and Lucy’s relationship was like when they first met. Lucy was clearly annoyed with Holly. She felt that Holly treated her like a baby, and made her feel like she didn’t do anything right. The second box shows that when they worked on a case together they got really angry with each other and told each other how they felt. The third box shows how their anger attracted a Poltergeist and they had to work together to survive. The fourth box shows that after they survive the Poltergeist and life goes back to normal Holly and Lucy started to accept each other and began a friendship.
So, in the end Lucy liked Holly more than in the beginning because in the beginning she was annoyed with Holly. Then when they were working on a case together Lucy got angry with Holly and they told each other how they really felt. Once their anger attracted a Poltergeist they realized that they had to work together to stay alive. After, Lucy and Holly began to accept each other. They had a conversation that mainly consisted of “Hey.” “Hello.” “Are you okay.” and things like that. It’s not the most interesting conversation ever, but for once they weren’t trying to secretly insult one another. It was just “weary and cautiously forgiving.” “It was a start.”
